CHANNEL 3 PROJECT
CH3 Project is new and will be growing steadily. We just wanted to get it out as soon as possible to start the process.IN CASE OF EMERGENCY OR REAL-WORLD DISASTER
This project originally came from a Linkup Protocol used by several individuals and disaster preparedness Retreat Groups to be used in case of a real-world emergency when normal communications are unavailable.
Since the average citizen is NOT an Amateur Radio operator, we wanted to have a standardized method of being able to communicate with one another. Nearly everyone in our circle had at least one form of communication requiring no license to operate, such as CB, FRS/GMRS, or MURS radios. Many of us had all three. So, if someone needed assistance they had the highest probability of linking up with someone of like-mind, even if the two parties did not personally know each other prior that moment.
Because the link-up protocol was distributed among various circles of influence, it became highly possible (and probable) that someone of like-mind could be in your vicinity without either of you being aware; because you each know someone who knows someone who are mutual friends and/or acquaintances. That relationally connects you, even if only philosophically.
RADIO TYPE CHANNEL FREQUENCY
- CB 3 26.985 MHz
- FRS/GMRS 3 462.6125 Mhz
- MURS 3 151.940 Mhz
- CB 3 26.985 MHz
- FRS/GMRS 3 462.6125 Mhz
- MURS 3 151.940 Mhz
Do NOT use sub-channels (or “privacy” codes)
- 3 (Turn your radio on and set it to Channel 3)
- 2 (Attempt to broadcast for approximately 2 minutes)
- 1 (Attempt again every 1 HOUR, on the hour, to attempt to save batteries)
If you are a member of the American Redoubt Network (ARN), you simply use your ARN call sign, Preceded by the word, “Redoubt.” So if your call sign is Tango-67, you would say
“Redoubt _________ , this is Redoubt Tango Six Seven.”If you do not have an ARN Call Sign, then your call sign is “REDOUBT…” and the initials of your first and last name (or just your last name).
“Redoubt _________ , this is Redoubt Tango Six Seven.”If you do not have an ARN Call Sign, then your call sign is “REDOUBT…” and the initials of your first and last name (or just your last name).
Example: “This is REDOUBT JULIET SIERRA” (if you do not know the phonetic alphabet, you could simply say “This is REDOUBT J.S.”) Just get the job done.
If you must communicate “in the blind” (attempt to reach ANY Redoubter who may be monitoring), then you can use the unknown party (or Hailing) call-sign of “X-Ray.”
Example:
“Redoubt X-Ray, this is Redoubt Juliet Sierra. Does anyone copy?”
“Redoubt X-Ray, this is Redoubt Juliet Sierra. Does anyone copy?”
If there is a real emergency, you could also monitor CH3 to give assistance to others in need. To save batteries, monitor for 5 minutes on each side of the hour, to increase the chances of hearing another “Redoubter” who may be communicating using the “Make Contact In 3-2-1″ method.
Remember, when making contact with someone you don’t know, always proceed with caution.
KEEP CHECKING BACK FOR MORE DETAILS ON THE CH3 PROJECT.
MUCH MORE TO COME!
